IG Mutyambai Tightens COVID-19 Rules As Case Tally Surpasses 102,000

Mutyambai in a statement on Tuesday, February 9, called out what he believed was Ďa rising trend pointing to the violation of Ministry of Health COVID-19 protocolsí.

Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai has ordered all police officers to ensure strict enforcement of all COVID-19 rules by the Ministry of Health.

Mutyambai in a statement on Tuesday, February 9, called out what he termed as ‚Äėa rising trend pointing to the violation of Ministry of Health COVID-19 protocols‚Äô.

A section of Kenyans have violated the protocols by hosting illegal gatherings where there is no observance of social distancing or wearing of face masks.

Some businesses and individuals, he added, were not observing the curfew hours running from 10 pm to 4 am every night.

‚ÄúSome violations include: holding unauthorized gatherings where social distance is not observed, failure to observe curfew hours, failure to wear masks, and overcrowding in Public Service Vehicles,‚ÄĚ noted the statement.

Mutyambai urged those willing to hold public gatherings to notify the OCS of such intents at least 3 days before the proposed date. This is mandatory.

In addition, commanders across the country have been directed to ensure that the guidelines are strictly adhered to.

‚ÄúMembers of the public are advised to adhere to the Ministry of Health protocols which include wearing a face mask properly and maintaining a social distance, failure to which necessary legal action may be taken against them,‚ÄĚ added the statement.

The order comes as Kenya's Covid-19 caseload rises to 102,048 after 104 tested positive for the virus. This is from a sample size of 3,348 in the past 24 hours, as of Tuesday, February 9.

69 patients have been discharged, raising recoveries to 84,542. 32 patients were on home-based care and 37 in hospital.

On a sad note, three people succumbed to the virus, raising the total death toll to 1,789.
