JOBS: Tips on Writing a Good Application Letter

Many recruiters out there are very cautious with how you present yourself. When it comes to writing an application letter, one thing to put in mind is that the way you present your letters of application is the way your employer will perceive you.

Your letter will always be louder than your actions when applying for a job. With this, you should not be worried because no one is perfect. You'll make mistakes often, but with time when you put this into practice, you will get to learn more and also experience a change in what you are doing.

When submitting your resume for a job, you should include an application letter. This type of letter gives you the opportunity to elaborate on your qualifications and explain why you want the job. A well-written application letter can entice hiring managers to schedule an interview with you, propelling you forward in the application process.

An application letter

Also known as a cover letter.

It's a document that goes with your resume when you apply for a job. This letter elaborates on the information in your resume. It provides you with an excellent opportunity to highlight your most relevant qualifications and explain why you believe you are the best candidate for the position.

Writing an application letter

  1. Research the company/ organization

The first thing first is to do thorough research on the company or organization that you're applying to. Many job seekers fail to do this and it causes lots of confusion about what to write in your letter. You need to understand where your letter is going.

You should also be very keen on the details of the company. That is to know who is the head of the company, the size of the company, and the skills required in the company among others.

2. Your letter should also be in a professional format.

This letter should be formatted professionally and include your name, contact information, date, and company information.

3. State the position that you're applying for.

Before writing an application letter, you have to go through the job description and identify the role or the position that you are applying for.

Begin the letter with a clear statement about the position you are applying for. Mention the company by name. You might want to mention where you saw the job posting. If you were referred by someone at the company, including their name and position.

4. Explain why you're the best candidate for the job.

In this section, you need to be very clear and hit the nail on the head.

Explain why you're the best fit for this job opening in one or two powerful sentences. Give specifics about your experience, skills, education, and certifications.

5. Summarize your qualifications.

Mention the most important qualifications that make you a good fit for the position. Give a brief overview of your background, highlighting the most important points from your resume. Consider first what you want the hiring manager to know.

6. Why do you want the job.

This section explains why you chose this company and what interests you the most about this job opportunity.

7. Professional closing tag.

Thank the reader for taking the time to read your letter, include your resume and any other attachments, and offer to provide additional information as needed. Mention how excited you are for the next steps in the hiring process, and finish with a closing tag.

Here's a job application that you could try the above skills. Best of luck!
