Why Us Embassy Issued a Travel Advisory in Kisumu Ahead of Supreme Court Ruling
The Us Embassy issued a travel advisory warning its citizens to avoid traveling to Kisumu ahead of the supreme court ruling that is slated for 5th September.
According to the Embassy, Kisumu might experience chaos if the ruling goes against their expectations.
"Out of an abundance of caution, the U.S. Embassy has imposed movement restrictions on U.S. government personnel in Kisumu. The State Department reminds U.S. citizens of the continued need for sustained vigilance," the advisory stated.
"Election-related demonstrations and rallies regularly take place after elections, at times blocking key intersections and causing traffic jams," the advisory read in part.
"Demonstrations may occasionally be violent, requiring police intervention. Strikes and other protest activities related to economic conditions occur regularly."
Following an advisory that was released on Tuesday, August 2, in which the US Embassy imposed movement restrictions and further advised its citizens to only enter the city if and when essential, Kenyans had condemned the Embassy.
However, the embassy clarified and reassured Kenyans in a statement that it had no information of any planned violent acts, despite intense media speculation to the contrary.
Kisumu people were just chilling peacefully then all over a sudden, The US Embassy in Nairobi has issued a security alert ahead of The Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential results next week on Monday of possible chaos.

The remark, according to the Embassy, was a standard security notice. The statement further noted that the alarm was targeted at Kisumu County because the city is home to numerous US Embassy employees and periodically welcomes US citizens.
