President Uhuru Kenyatta Finally Tours Ukambani Region

President Uhuru will on Friday, July 9 visit Machakos County, Makueni County, and Kitui county in a visit to State House termed as a scaled-down tour.

While issuing a statement on Monday, Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua said the President feared his visit to the region would lead to a spike in Covid-19 infections.

However, the president decided to go ahead with the tour which was scheduled to begin on Tuesday, July 6 after meeting leaders from the Eastern region led by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

On Friday, State House spokesperson Kanze Dena said the President was keen to oversee development projects in the region.

The President’s visit is set to begin at Konza City in Machakos County, followed by an inspection of the Kibwezi-Mutumo-Kitui road before concluding by inspecting the works on Thwake Dam.

“Part of the reason the President will be visiting Ukambani is to ensure that all ongoing national Gov't projects in the region are completed as scheduled,” Kanze Dena said.

Kanze also asked residents of the Ukambani region to differentiate between National and County Government projects so that their concerns are addressed by the right agencies.
