Uhuru stated that he will pass the leadership baton to Ruto as required by law. He insisted, however, that this did not imply that he supported Ruto.

"I will hand over power smiling because it's my Constitutional duty but my leader is Baba, Raila Odinga. Politics is not a matter to keep in your pockets," Uhuru stated.

The outgoing President also chastised Kenyans for their vote in the August 9 General Election, claiming that they denied themselves the opportunity to have a united country.

"You denied yourself an opportunity to bring the country together, you haven't denied Raila," President Uhuru stated.

President Kenyatta weighed in on the upcoming National Assembly and Senate elections for speakers, endorsing Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the Senate race.

"Stephen Kalonzo would have been the best chief minister. I believe he would also have been a good representative of our agenda in Senate," Uhuru added.

Uhuru called a meeting with Azimo-elected Members of Parliament and senators to discuss how the coalition party would defeat Kenya Kwanza in the speakers' elections.

Secretaries-General of affiliate parties, led by Jubilee's Jeremiah Kioni, announced to the media that the coalition had decided on Kenneth Marende as their candidate for National Assembly Speaker.
