LIVE: Hakainde Hichilema Sworn in as Zambia's 7th President

Zambia's president-elect Hakainde Hichilema was sworn in as Zambia`s seventh President during a ceremony on Tuesday 24th August at the National Heroes Stadium Lusaka, Zambia.

Hakainde pledged to carry out his obligations as president and to protect and maintain Zambia's constitution.

He was sworn in with Mutale Nalumango, his deputy president.

Hichilema was declared the victory from the  August 12 presidential elections after obtaining over three million votes.  

Edgar Lungu, the former president who conceded defeat in the elections officially handed over the reins of authority to Hakainde.

However, the event was attended by many African Leaders including Kenya`s President Uhuru Kenyatta, Former Kenya`s Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Julius Malema, a fiery South African politician, and Nelson Chamisa, the leader of Zimbabwe's opposition, Namibia's, Mozambique's, and Tanzania's heads of state
