A General Service Unit (GSU) officer cadet drowned during a swimming training session at the GSU Training School in Embakasi, Nairobi.

The swimming pool attendant rescued Geresa and took him to Riara Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the police, Wycliff Geresa, 37, was taking a swimming lesson with fellow cadets on Wednesday afternoon when he sank into the pool.

“Today the 18/05/2022 at around 16.30 hrs his course men NCO’s special SOP course were having a swimming lesson when one cadet namely No. 89639 C/IP Wycliff Geresa Kisii male adult aged 37 years who was swimming with other cadets sunk into the swimming pool,” a report filed by officer Gideon Mbusya read.

His body was taken to the Kenyatta University morgue for a post-mortem examination.

Earlier this month, May 4, 2022 in Muthaara village, Kiambu County, three children drowned in a pit left open by miners.

The three aged 7 to 10 where playing in the area when the tragedy occurred on Tuesday evening. Residents claim the boys were chasing a motorcycle tyre they were playing with.

The trench was allegedly excavated by dealers extracting machine-cut stones, and it has since overflowed due to the rainfall.
