A mother in Homa-Bay County is being detained at the police station after allegedly burning her son's hands for stealing cooked food from the neighbor's home.

The woman is believed to have bound the boy’s hands with a nylon bag string before setting it aflame on his hands when she learned that her son had allegedly stolen and eaten fried liver from a neighbor’s home.

“The woman got annoyed and burnt the boy’s fingers immediately after she received information that he ate the meat. I don’t know whether the person whose food was eaten complained,” a neighbor said.

According to reports, the young boy who was playing with his three siblings went into the neighbor's home and took the food before the neighbor's child noticed him and reported him.

The event which happened on Monday night in Shauri Yako estate in the County was reported to the area’s assistant chief, Salim Nyauke who intervened the incident.

After hearing the boy's heartbreaking cries, a neighbor hurried to rescue him, bringing the situation to public attention.

The child was rescued then and taken urgently to Homa-Bay County Referral Hospital where he is being treated for severe burns to his fingers.

Nyauke said that the woman will be charged with assault once the investigations is over.

According to officers from the children services department under the direction of Joseph Otieno, the case is being processed and the suspect will be arraigned.

The suspect is a mother of four who lives alone.
