After a small collision, a throng attempted to take the belted-up woman from her car, which has since gone viral and sparked national outrage.

Despite the woman's cry for help, the unruly bodaboda riders went on and stripped her naked.

The crime was condemned by police headquarters yesterday, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, ordering security agencies to ensure the offenders are brought to justice. Following the horrible incident, detectives acted quickly and detained at least 16 individuals yesterday.

Joshua Omukata, the Nairobi Traffic Police Commander, claimed his men had already seized five motorcycles. The incident occurred on Friday, March 4, but it was only shared on Twitter yesterday that it became viral.

After it was revealed that they snatched her phone and cash worth Sh130,000, the accused will be prosecuted with robbery with assault.

The arrests came just hours after Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiangi criticized the incident and demanded a probe. "We must defend our roadways against such heinous and terrible acts of violence.I have instructed our security officers to ensure that all perpetrators of this atrocious conduct are apprehended and punished," Matiang'i added.

Dr. Monica Juma, the Energy CS, also criticized the act and called for justice.

“The absolute power of the law must be applied to all individuals concerned. What a pity that no one was able to protect this young woman from this unjustifiable act in broad sight. What happened to our society's humanity? Really?" she questioned.

The female victim was going from Gigiri to Parklands when she was engaged in a vehicle collision near Barabara Tano, at the intersection of Prof Wangari Maathai and Limuru roads. As she drove to safety, she was attacked by the renegade boda boda riders, according to police.

By last night, police had launched a manhunt for the culprits they said they had identified as part of a broad crackdown on boda bodas that were breaking traffic laws. Our attention has been attracted to a deplorable video circulating on social media of Boda Boda riders assaulting a motorist following an apparent road traffic mishap.

"The thuggish bunch proceeded to strip the lady naked," police headquarters said Tuesday.

Perpetrators are being investigated.

"After the investigations are completed, they will be brought before a court of law," Shioso added.

Omukata said last night that police had identified the culprits in the video and had launched a big manhunt for them. Omukata also disclosed that his officers had launched a major crackdown against the motorbikes operators flouting traffic regulations.

Chief Administrative Secretary of the ICT Ministry Nadia Abdalla condemned the incident saying the violence against women should be stopped.

“The video of the young lady being attacked and harassed in broad daylight in public is traumatizing and heartbreaking. DCI and NPS please do something,” she said.

The Protective and Safety Association of Kenya (PROSAK) yesterday condemned the incident and asked the police to expedite the investigations.

“Apart from going against our societal and cultural norms, the incident becomes the cause of alarm among the general public due to lack of security within the country when it comes to disorderly and retaliatory behavior of boda boda operators,” PROSAK said in a statement.

The chairman of the Boda Boda Association of Kenya (BAK), David Njoroge, also condemned the incident, urging the police to expedite their investigations so that all those involved are captured.

"This lady, like many others who have been harassed, is entitled to justice. Our sisters, moms, and daughters need to know that they can travel safely." Njoroge revealed.

"We apologise to the victim as well as the ladies across the country who have been subjected to such ordeals," Njoroge further said.
