Uganda shuts down schools Over Covid-19 cases surge

According to the President’s national address on Sunday night, he said the move is meant to reduce the further spread of Covid-19.

By Sunday, June 6th,2021, Uganda had cumulated 52,929 positive cases, while the number of deaths related to the virus was 374, and recoveries were 43,487.

“We are concerned that this will exhaust the available bed space and oxygen supply in hospitals unless we constitute urgent public health measures,” Museveni said.

The President has further directed all teachers to get the Covid-19 vaccine before they are accepted in schools.

Communal prayers in mosques, churches, or in stadia have also been suspended for 42 days.

The highest number of people expected to attend the burials or funerals has been limited to 20 people and all should be wearing face masks and maintaining socials distance.

Further, all the public transport (buses, taxis, bodabodas) between and across districts have been suspended for 42 days effective June 10, 2021.

All inter-district movements have been banned except travel within Kampala Metropolitan (Kampala, Wakiso, Mukono).
