While attempting to save the other victim, who had been hired to clean muck from the 60-foot well, one of the victims slid into the death trap.

Evans Krop, 35, and James Krop, 35, died in the borehole after drowning.

Evans had hired James to clean the borehole because it had not been utilised since it was dug, according to Kipkomo Sub-County Commissioner Adano Abukula.

“James fell into the borehole while cleaning; he ran out of oxygen and started crying for help,” he said.

“Evans, a teacher, decided to save his worker but was also trapped inside the borehole," according to Adabo.

The incident occurred a kilometre from the Chepareria police station

Police arrived at the scene, and with the help of the public members, they were able to dig up some remains.

"Relatives have positively identified the deceased, and they will be transferred to the Kapenguria referral hospital morgue for postmortem," he said.

"We lost two lives in the previous accidents, which occurred in June and December last year; unfortunately, we have lost two lives in today's tragedy," the Sub-County Commissioner added.

"The person on top threw a rope to the victim so that he could pull him out," he said. "However, he was unable to do so because he could no longer grasp onto the rope. As a result, he fell back into the borehole.”

“Evans, who teaches at Kapsowar Primary in Elgeyo Marakwet, arrived home on Wednesday to his Chepareria rental houses to install the water pumping system to help his tenants obtain water," according to Kales.
