The gangsters who were equipped with a pistol had confronted the woman who had just been dropped off by a taxi along Muhoho road, in Langata.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation reported that strife ensued as the thugs attacked her, prompting the woman to scream out for help. This attracted the attention of Police Officers on patrol, who rushed towards the scene.

However, on noticing the fast-approaching officers, the thugs took to their heels towards Nairobi West, as they fired at the officers.

The thugs were finally cornered three kilometers away from the scene of the robbery.

Kinoti said one of the thugs opened fire missing the officer leading the chase by a sideburn.

"This prompted a fierce response from the officers who fired back and fatally injured the thugs,"  Kinoti added.

The Police recovered a Blow P99A loaded pistol, with five rounds of 5.56 mm caliber from the thugs.

The bodies of the criminals were moved to the City mortuary pending identification after the documentation of the scene by the Directorate of Criminal investigation.

The incident follows the gunned down of a robbery suspect by a police officer last week after terrorizing residents at the Buru Buru Shopping Centre.

Kinoti said the suspect and his two accomplices had stolen valuables from members of the public, who were rushing home from the busy shopping center.

But upon arrival, one of the armed robbers who was a pillion passenger on the getaway bike fired at the officers.

In the same week, two suspected thieves were shot dead after they raided a shop owned by a policeman in Likoni, Mombasa county.

A third suspect escaped with gunshot wounds, a police report shows.

The report shows the three-man gang was armed with pangas and iron bars. They started to break into the shop.

The shop is owned by a police officer attached to the Mombasa County Directorate of Criminal Investigation office. He was in his house that is adjacent to the shop during the 2 am incident.
