Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife through the CS Najib Balala on Friday, May 7th officially launched the National Wildlife Census 2021.

The Tourism CS Najib Balala launched the exercise in an event held at  Shimba Hills National Reserve in Kwale County where he said this census will be of its kind as it will entail a comprehensive of all National Wildlife Census in the country.

“This will be Kenya’s first National Wildlife Census, conducted on land and sea,” Balala tweeted.

CS Balala called on wildlife officers to not only offer data but also give more details and science in order to provide solutions in terms of the model of conservation and co-existence.

The National Wildlife Census will take three months and will entail aerial census in all wildlife ecosystems; Tsavo, Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Laikipia-Samburu, Meru, Garissa, Wajir, Marsabit, Turkana, Marine animals, and freshwater birds within the Coast & Major Rivers.

Balala also said the government is ready to work with the Tanzanian government to sign bilateral agreements that will ensure a smooth wildlife movement between the two countries.

CS Balala called on all wildlife officers to ensure they release official communication to the public to avoid miscommunication.

He stated that Human-wildlife conflicts have been rampant in the recent past and the government is yet to settle over 14 billion to cater for deaths and injuries caused by these conflicts.
