Police officers have arrested Kisii Deputy Governor Joash Maangi at Kisii High School as he was with other Tangatanga members awaiting to welcome Deputy President William Ruto.

An aide to the deputy governor disclosed to Citizen Digital that detectives ordered Maangi to enter their car and drove him off the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Kisii for grilling.

“We don’t know why they arrested him, they did not give a reason why they were picking him. They only told him to enter their car before they left to Central Police Station where they are interrogating him,” stated the aide.

The arrest comes a day after Orange Democratic Movement Kisii County branch chairman, Samuel Omwando, a key ally of Deputy Governor Maangi, was arrested on Sunday, February 15.

Omwando was detained over allegations that he had planned to cause chaos at the funeral of the late Mzee Simeon Nyachae at Gusii Stadium, which is currently ongoing.

Maangi and other MPs allied to Deputy President William Ruto had reportedly mobilized groups of youths to heckle some leaders at the funeral ceremony of the former Cabinet minister.
