Nyakemincha Secondary School Closed Indefinitely Over Strange Death Of Student
A school in Kisii County, St. Peter's Nyakemincha Secondary School has been closed indefinitely, following the unexpected death of a Form Three student whose body was discovered in a nearby river on Sunday.

The school's principal, Leonard Murungi, said he decided to close the school to alleviate student concerns and allow authorities to conduct investigations.
“I have sought permission from the ministry of education to allow me to close early for half term break to allow the anxiety of the parents and teachers to end before the students report back on 30th May,” said Murungi.
A passerby spotted the body of the Form Three student in a tiny river near the school.
The youngster had no history of indiscipline or illness, according to Murungi.
He said the student became ill on May 17 and was examined at Kinara hospital in Nyamira town before being discharged with fever symptoms.
“The student has been well-behaved and does not have any history of sickness since he reported three years ago. We are equally shocked at what could have happened to the student, but we leave all the matter to the investigating agencies to unravel the cause of the mysterious death,” added Murungi.
According to the deceased's schoolmates, he was last seen on Sunday morning before attending the Catholic mass at the school when they woke up for morning personal devotion.
Later that evening, his body was discovered in the river.
This comes as several pupils from the same school are being treated in hospitals after a "fever outbreak" in the school two weeks ago, according to the principal.
He said that over 20 children are being treated at Kinara hospital in Nyamira town for the outbreak that struck the school two weeks ago.
“We have also had a fever outbreak in the school, but the students are being managed at Kinara hospital and are responding well to medication,” said Murungi.
Murungi, on the other hand, advised the public and parents to be calm and refrain from spreading falsehoods and propaganda about the incidents instead of remaining quiet as solutions are sought.
“It is unfortunate that the public is blowing the whole thing out of proportion, and I urge them to remain calm so that we don’t give out false information about the situation in school, everything is under control, and there is no cause for alarm,” added the Principal.
On Monday, the 30th, the kids will report back.
The body is currently in Nyamira County Hospital, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
