Nairobi Court Slaps Businessman with 1-year Jail imprisonment Over Fake Gold Scandal

A Nairobi court on Thursday 5th August sentenced businessman Kevin Obia alias Kevin Kleigh to one-year jail imprisonment after he was found guilty in a six-year fake gold scandal.

Kevin was found guilty of attempting to defraud an Austrian of more than Ksh.13.7 million while pretending to be in a position to sell him 7kg of gold.

This is after the accused Kevin Obia, was charged with obtaining €127,000 (Sh13.7 million) on May 1, 2015, at the Hilton Hotel, Nairobi, from Christian Gallati by pretending he was in a position to sell to him the gold.

However, Kevin had denied ever receiving any money from Gallati through false pretenses in the same year adding that he was framed by the police and that he knew nothing about the fake gold trade.

He also faced a second count of attempting to defraud Gallati of $570,000 (Sh54.1 million) on May 18, 2015, claiming he was in a position to sell him 13kg of gold.
