EPISODE 2 :unspoken but true

People still looking forward to when their opinions will matter.

EPISODE 2 :unspoken but true

Under a normal situation, it's hardly possible to determine the amount of money you will like to allocate repairs and any uncertain faults in the house for the whole year, Having that we`re in a coronavirus situation and we should set our priorities right- this is according to the experts from the ministry of health.

Nevertheless, somehow in a way the government is trying to show us otherwise, this is due to the latest report, from Ukur Yatani, finance cabinet secretary, that sh 86 million will be spent on statehouses facelift; that is the refurbishment of the state House Nairobi and other state lodges across the country in the 2021/ 2022 financial year.

According to the cabinet secretary, the facelift is expected to rise to Almost sh127 million, comes 2022/ 2023  fiscal year calendar.

Reasonably, this is a budget that is being released at a time when Kenyans are compassionately complaining about the economic hardship on their fate. Currently, almost the prices of all the basic items in the households are being hiked! Take, for instance, the bread price, it has been raised beyond the normal price of the purchase to the point, it is even becoming harder for normal Kenyan citizens to purchase yet others are planning about refurbishment!

I think when a budget is read in every fiscal year, there is the amount allocated for refurbishment and where does this additional money come,  loans? particularly during this moment? I feel priorities must be set right!

In every way, Kenyans will have a whine to make. It's their right anyway and they will give their opinions but, at the end of the day, the money has already been given out! And the dear citizens, the taxpayers will just keep on pushing continue to put the bread on the table. what are we supposed to do?

As citizens, the final has been accepting the reality and rounding off the existing problem to the nearest solution. When the price of bread is raised,  they round it off to KDF(cheap cake)  When the price of fuel is raised, they opt to walk or to cycle. Is this the future of Kenya that we want? Will our opinion as citizens ever come to be listened to or to be put into consideration when it comes to decision-making in the country? Let's have a collective mind and think about this in the meantime.

Next month CS Yatani is expected to table the country's largest budget estimated at sh3.6 trillion before the national assembly 2.038 trillion shillings including 1.776 trillion shillings in taxes will bill the proceeds of government revenues leaving a deficit of over 1.5 trillion to plug the deficit. Kenya is expected to borrow 952.9 billion excluding new loans taken to retire older ones. Can we still hope for a stable thrift shortly?
