Drug Traffickers Arrested In Likoni, Mombasa

On Wednesday, four infamous suspected drug traffickers were apprehended at Mombasa's Likoni Ferry while ferrying a material suspected to be heroin.

After being discovered in possession of the material, which was neatly concealed in a shopping bag and stowed beneath the car's bonnet, Ali Mwakileo, Swaleh Mgoshi, Zacharia Mwakisuwa, and Juma Mwakileo were detained.

The 1.5 kilograms of heroin, according to preliminary investigations, has a street value of Sh3 million.

Their final destination and origin remain unknown.

Following intelligence received, detectives from the Transnational and Organized Crimes Unit were dispatched to arrest them.

According to authorities, samples of the chemical have been flown to the city for processing at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory's Chemistry and Toxicology unit.

Drug trafficking cases have been on the rise in the area, despite calls to stop it.

The suspects are being held in custody at a Mombasa police station pending their arraignment.
