The media fraternity is mourning the death of a veteran journalist Rueben Githinji who succumbed to Covid-19 complications.

On Wednesday, The Star lost a veteran journalist Rueben Githinji who was a news reporter based in Embu who died at the age of 52 years.

According to the information released by the family, Rueben passed away in the morning at 8:30 AM in Murang’a Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.  

"My brother has died of Covid-19. We have learned of his demise with great shock," said Rueben’s sister.

Rueben Githinji fell ill last week and he was rushed to Embu Referral Hospital where he was admitted under critical conditions.

The veteran journalist complained of difficulty in breathing where he was immediately put on oxygen upon arrival in the Hospital.

While at Embu Referral Hospital, his condition worsened and the doctors said he be taken to an Intensive Care Unit.

Since all the ICU beds in the facility were full, the Journalist had to be transferred to Murang’a Hospital.

Journalists who worked with Rueben in Embu described him as a hardworking and humble writer who loved his job.
