Chebukati said this amid calls by leaders allied to Azimio la Umoja that Ruto should be summoned by the IEBC for the utterances he made while on a tour to the US and UK.

The Deputy President, while addressing delegates in the United States, urged the  States to assist in ensuring free and fair elections and that there were plans to rig the elections in favor of his fierce opponent Raila Odinga. Mr. Ruto urged the international community to thwart any attempts to steal the vote.

Wafula Chebukati was under pressure to summon the second in command for the remarks as has been done to other leaders,  the latest being Muranga County Women Rep Sabina Chege.

The IEBC chairman has clearly stated that the investigations will be done by the DPP  and not IEBC, as earlier indicated.

“ The rigging claims made by the Deputy President William Ruto to be investigated by the DPP, the commission is committed to ensuring free and fair elections in August,” said  Wafula Chebukati.

IEBC was under scrutiny for applying selective summons with leaders accusing the commission of summoning only the leaders allied to Azimio la Umoja while reluctant to apply the same force to summon those of Kenya Kwanza.
