CS Macharia’s Nairobi Transport Board Appointments Sparks Rage from Kenyans

Transport CS James Macharia appointed Mary Waithiegeni Chege, Zachariah Karenge Mungai, and Ronald Ndirangu Ndegwa to be the members of the Nairobi Metropolitan Transport Authority Board for a period of three years.

A gazette notice which is dated February 7th surfaced online on Friday, February 26th attracting a backlash from Kenyans who felt the appointment disregarded the inclusivity which is in the Kenyan constitution.

The Gazette notice read, "In exercise of the powers conferred in paragraph 8 (2) of the Nairobi Metropolitan Authority Order, 2012, the Nairobi Metropolitan Council appoints; Mary Waithiegeni Chege, Zachariah Karenge Mungai, and Ronald Ndirangu Ndegwa to be the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority board, for a period of three years, effective from February 10th.

Kenyans on Social Medias expressed their rage and accusing the Transport CS of favoring one community. Many felt the spirit of Handshake was not embraced in the appointment.

LSK President Nelson Havi described the appointments as “sinful” and one that depicts “moronic corruption.”

"Mary Waithiegeni Chege, Zachariah Karenge Mungai, and Ronald Ndirangu Ndegwa do not be misused as human shields by a few Kikuyu elites who are not your friends or equals to polarize and divide Kenya. It is moronic corruption. Reject the sinful appointment by James Macharia," Havi Tweeted.
