Dickson Macharia, Alleged 'Confirm Gang' Ringleader Charged With Drug Trafficking

On Monday he appeared before Principal Magistrate Isaac Orenge under sole accusations of drug trafficking.

On August 3 at Kivumbini, Nakuru East, he denied having 11.049kg of marijuana, believed to be worth Sh331,470.

Macharia was taken into custody following his possible involvement in the murders of four women in Mawanga, Nakuru County.

During his arrest, he was found in possession of a laptop and mobile devices that he reportedly used to perpetrate cybercrimes and mobile phone fraud.

Inspector Japin Nyachae, the investigating officer, requested that Macharia's bail be denied in an affidavit dated August 19 as he posed a flight risk and his residence was unknown.

Nyachae requested that Mr. Macharia be held in custody for an additional 14 days as they awaited a report from the cybercrime section.

David Mongeri, Macharia's attorney, urged the court to grant him release on fair bond conditions, adamant that he posed no flight danger.

“The charge the accused person currently faces is an offence where bond can be granted. I pray to the court that he be released and will be attending court and cooperate with detectives while he is out on bond,” Mongeri pleaded.

He claimed that police had no authority to continue holding him because they were unable to connect him to any capital offense.

Additionally, he claimed that his client's residence is well-known and that he lives with his mother in Kivumbini.

On August 23, the court will decide whether to grant Macharia's bail request.
