CS Matiang’i in Hot Soup Again!

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i is now in a hot soup after expressing concern over the increasing number of money launderers aspiring for the August 9 election positions.

CS Matiang’i in Hot Soup Again!

Matiang’i had on Tuesday, May 10 during a forum of stakeholders in the criminal justice system stated that money launderers, also known as wash wash gangs, are exploiting the country’s weak financial state to manipulate the electoral process by compromising the voter.

Following his declarations, part of Kenyans on Twitter are now blaming him for neglecting his responsibilities and delegating the obligations to ordinary citizens.

According to these disappointed citizens, the interior Cabinet Secret working hand in hand with the police and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) ought to have investigated and arrested the mentioned criminals; lacking the freedom to seek these elective posts ahead of the August general elections.

They are now calling CS Matiang’i to report the suspects and stop them from vying before causing more harm to the country as he stated in his declarations.

“We could end up laundering criminals of unprecedented standards into our elective offices. We might have over 40 percent of elected officeholders becoming our leaders if we allow all the ‘wash wash’ gangs and other criminals to bribe their way in the coming elections,” Matiang’i warned.

The CS also identified the abuse of social media as another concern for election security and credibility, expressing frustrations with the process of prosecuting suspects in social media abuse cases.

CS Matiang’I further blamed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the weak regulatory framework on campaign financing, claiming that an ideal tough legal administration would necessitate a multi-sectorial approach.
