The facility was contracted as the National Tallying Centre for the 2022 General Election, and it will remain closed to enable preparations for the forthcoming elections.

"Bomas of Kenya has been contracted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as the National Tallying Centre for the August 9 General Election."

“Consequently, we wish to inform our esteemed clients that we will remain closed to members of the public from June 21, 2022, until the end of the exercise. Any inconveniences that might be caused by this decision are regrettable," read the statement.

Kenyans will be serviced through online and social media channels during the electioneering season, according to a media announcement.

To increase transparency, only fully accredited agents will have access to Bomas.

The IEBC, on the other hand, has already produced a timeline for the General Election, highlighting key dates as the deadline approaches on August 9.

The commission will use the Bomas of Kenya facility to oversee polling station counting, tallying, and announcement of results.
