While demonstrating with placards, the women said they are advocating for peaceful campaigns and political tolerance in the country ahead of the August polls.

“Today I joined Daughters of Raila in a march calling for peaceful elections. What happened in Iten should never have happened to any candidate. We will continue to preach peace before, during, and after elections,” Nairobi Women rep Esther Passaris said via a tweet.

Raila's day in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Friday ended abruptly following an incident that happened in Iten town. A group of rowdy youths heckled his rally in Iten, denying him an opportunity to sell his manifesto to residents.

The incident forced him to cancel his campaign and head to Uasin Gishu for the burial of Mzee Jackson Kibor.

However, he also faced a hostile reception there as a group of youths pelted stones at his chopper, damaging the screen.

A number of leaders from the region have condemned the incident, calling upon the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to investigate the matter and have the culprits arrested.

On Monday, a court in Eldoret allowed police to detain 17 suspects arrested for allegedly stoning a chopper that was carrying Raila.

Their detention was for seven days at the Eldoret police station to enable DCI complete investigations against the accused.

Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Stephen Kihara said those arrested have given information on how the incident took place.

And on Sunday, two MPs – Oscar Sudi (Kapseret) and Caleb Kositany (Soy) – and Uasin Gishu speaker David Kiplagat were questioned by the detectives in Nakuru after they were linked to the attack.
