As Matchday 1 continues, Wednesday’s fixtures offer up some mouthwatering matchups, excited debuts and the promise of even more goals. Here’s what’s in store for another sizzling night in European football.

Wednesday sees the return of Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid to Italy’s capital and the San Siro to face off against Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan. With Gareth Bale, David Alaba doubts and Toni Kroos out injured, Madrid hope to carry Sunday’s impressive momentum that saw them decisively defeat Celta Vigo 5-2. Inter on the other hand dropped points in their Sunday league match against Sampdoria, who had to fight back twice to earn themselves a tight 2-2 draw. Poised to be a cracking game, who will come out on top remains to be seen.

Elsewhere in Europe sees Liverpool welcome Milan’s other half, as AC travel to Anfield without the injured Ibrahimovic, who marked his return from an Achilles injury with a goal over the weekend, but was ruled out once again for Wednesday’s match due to recurring inflammation. As the group marked as this season’s ‘group of death’ which includes Porto and Atletico Madrid, Liverpool’s coach Jurgen Klopp was quoted as saying, “This is the strongest group we have had since I am at Liverpool, no doubt about that,” leaving no room for mistakes for any team in this precariously balanced group.

Wednesday also sees Lionel Messi’s first match in the Champions League in a PSG shirt, as the French team takes on Club Brugge in Belgium.

Other fixtures around Europe tonight include:

Atletico Madrid vs. Porto

Besiktas vs. Dortmund

Sheriff vs. Shakhtar Donetsk

Club Brugge vs. Paris Saint-Germain

Manchester City vs. Leipzig

Sporting CP vs. Ajax
