The penalty, according to Magistrate Eunice Nyutu, would serve as a reminder to other Journalists about inaccurate reporting.

The prosecution informed the court that a report published by Tuko tainted the witness, and the editor was subsequently ordered to appear in court.
The editor expressed regret to the court and informed it that the piece had been removed.

The Magistrate underlined that it is against the law to broadcast false information.

In a similar case in 2019 another Tuko News editor Douglas Baya was arrested and later released after he was accused of being an accomplice in the making and spreading of Wajir Woman Representative Fatma Gedi’s explicit fake sex tape.

The cybercrime investigating officer, Bakhith Khaungu, asked for 14 days to conduct investigations after Douglas Baya was taken into custody on Thursday, December 27, 2019.

However, Mr. Baya refused to accept a plea.
