Some Winners In Party Nominations May Be Disqualified: IEBC

In a statement released on Wednesday, April 20, the IEBC stated that any person nominated by a political party for any elective position will be rejected if they are not competent.

Anyone who is not qualified to vote in the August 9 elections under the constitution, the Elections Act, or any other written legislation, according to the IEBC, will not be allowed to vote.

The IEBC also reminded political parties that a nomination certificate provided to a candidate to run in the General Election must be signed by officially authorized party officials as the deadline for party primaries approaches.

Nomination certificates that are not certified, have the wrong date, or have been altered will be rejected, according to the Commission.

The IEBC also set important deadlines for political parties to meet in April. Political parties now have till Friday, April 22 to resolve any disagreements that may have occurred as a result of the nomination process.

Parties were also told that they had until April 28 to submit the names of candidates for the General Election.

"The prescribed Forms 11H (Presidential), 111 (Senate), 11J (County Woman Member to the National Assembly), 11K (Member of the National Assembly), 11L (County Governor) and 11M (County Assembly Ward Member) of the schedule to the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012.

"The forms shall be delivered in printed copy and electronic version (Microsoft Excel) at Anniversary Towers 21st floor between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m)," the IEBC statement read.
