An autopsy conducted on the body of Somali-American businessman Bashir Mohamud on Monday, May 24, 2021, has revealed that he died of strangulation.

Addressing the media at Umash Funeral Home in Nairobi, government pathologist Johansen Oduor stated that the businessman was tortured prior to his death. He had multiple wounds, possibly infliced by a blunt obect and had burns on some parts of his body.

"His body showed trauma on the head, burns on his body, there's evidence of torture on his toes and knees. The postmortem was done in the presence of police officers from Dagoretti and officers from the Forensic Department of the DCI," Oduor stated.

The businessman hit the headlines after he disappeared on May 13, 2021, and his Range Rover was later found burnt at the Ngong Forest.

Mohamud's body was retrieved from River Nyamindi on May 16 where it had been dumped and taken to Kerugoya Level 5 Hospital, from where he was identified.

His face had been disfigured, prompting detectives to employ biometric finger print recognition to ascertain the businessman's identity.

“We were informed that there was a body at River Nyamindi’s bed, that is Sunday last week (16/05/2021), we visited the scene where we collected the body and booked it at the Kerugoya morgue.

"Since it was naked and did not have any documents for identification, we took the fingerprints for identification. The details came late last night (Saturday 22/05/2021), showing that it was Bashir’s," Kirinyaga county criminal investigating officer (CCIO) Kiplagat Korir had said during an interview with KTN News.
