Ruto to Convene the First Meeting With the Kenya Kwanza Elected Leaders

The president-elect, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, and his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, are set to host a meeting with Kenya Kwanza's elected leaders, according to a statement sent to media outlets and signed by United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Veronica Maina.

Ruto to Convene the First Meeting With the Kenya Kwanza Elected Leaders

According to the statement, Ruto will meet with governors and their deputies, senators, National Assembly Members, and Woman Representatives.

“The President-elect and his deputy hereby invite the following categories of newly elected leaders to the first caucus of leaders elected to serve at the Senate, the National Assembly, and all elected Governors. This caucus will be convened at the Deputy President’s residence on Wednesday 17, August 2022 at 9 am,” part of the statement read.

The Kenya Kwanza team meeting will take place at the same time as the Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition meeting at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

Odinga spoke at a similar meeting on August 16, rejecting the results that declared Dr. Ruto the president-elect. Raila accused the Chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), Wafula Chebukati, of violating the Constitution and electoral laws in declaring Ruto as President-elect.

"The figures announced by Wafula Chebukati are null and void and must be quashed by a court of law. In our view there is no legally declared president-elect," Raila stated.

Raila also claimed that Chebukati exercised dictatorship and violated the law by announcing the election results despite the fact that four of the IEBC commissioners had rejected them.

Ruto and Gachagua will later meet with elected County Assembly Members under Kenya Kwanza in the regions where they were elected.

Ruto was declared the winner of the presidential elections by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati on Monday, August 15, 2022, after receiving 7,176,141 votes against Azimio La Umoja coalition leader Raila Odinga, who received 6,942,930 votes.
