"We need a new security policy which fully involves local communities in battling the challenges of insecurity and cattle rustling in the North Rift Counties," Chemno said.

He spoke on Tuesday at the Uasin Gishu County Headquarters in Eldoret town when he hosted his colleagues from Nandi, Trans Nzoia, and Elgeiyo Marakwet for a courtesy call.

The visit by Deputy Governors from the neighboring counties precedes a one-day workshop hosted by Kenya Devolution Program for North Rift Economic Bloc leadership at a hotel in Eldoret.

"We have come together to seek lasting economic solutions to insecurity problems of our region," said Nandi Deputy Governor Dr.  Eulita Cheruiyot.

Her Elgeiyo Marakwet counterpart Wesley Rotich, also present, echoed her sentiments stating that there has been a marked reduction in cases of insecurity in the Kerio Valley belt over the last decade because of increased efforts in creating economic opportunities for the locals.

Trans Nzoia Deputy Governor Dr. Stanley Kenei said that insecurity has reached a point where the national government should also allow locally initiated laws and approaches to addressing the issue.

The insecurity problem has led to a derail in development in many parts of the region despite many efforts that have been applied by the security apparatus within the region.
