The househelp, Shelsmith Kiprono alias Jerop is being held at the Langata police station while the DCI continues its investigation.

Reports from the police stated that they recovered Sh2.5 million from the suspect, who admitted to being a part of the stolen money when she appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate, Esther Bhoke at Kibera Law Courts. Four of her associates have also been charged with theft.

The five are accused of stealing money from her boss.

According to Inspector Daniel Opiyo, who is in charge of the investigations,  he obtained detention orders for Kiprono, who is thought to be the main suspect in the case. The case will be discussed on May 26 when the suspect is charged.

According to sources, the suspect was apprehended in Eldoret town by a team of officers from the DCI's Special Service Unit and the Criminal Intelligence and Research Bureau. She then led the cops to her hiding place in Kabarnet township, where she had rented a house.

The house was searched, and a large sum of money was recovered. Receipts for items purchased between May 6th and May 13th were also retrieved from her house.

In reference to an affidavit filed in court by inspector Opiyo, a source went to the employer's home to meet with some contractors who were to do some work there.

The househelp who lives in the servant's quarter, was not in the compound when the source arrived and the gate was also locked. He summoned the employer's sister who gave him keys to the house. Upon entering, they discovered the servants' quarters doors wide open.

They also discovered an open backdoor that leads to the main house via the kitchen. On entering the house, they also discovered that the doors to the sitting room were open.

The source then attempted to call the alleged suspect but her phones were switched off. He then informed the employer who instructed him to report the matter to the police.
