The swearing-in ceremony of George Koimburi and Pavel Oimeke was presided over by National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

The new parliamentarians were accompanied by MPs from their respective parties before the oaths were administered.

Juja's new MP George Koimburi succeeds the late Francis Waititu, popularly known as Wakapee, who died in February after suffering from a long battle with brain cancer.

Koimburi was the PEP party’s candidate which is associated with Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria that defeated the Jubilee party's candidate Susan Njeri to emerge as the winner in a contest that shocked the ruling party.

He garnered 12,159 votes against Njeri’s 5,746.

Koimburi had also contested against Wakapee in the 2017 elections on the Farmers' Party ticket but lost.
