Kalonzo Will No Longer Demand to Be Raila’s Running Mate: Wiper
Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua has revealed that the party has decided to give former Prime Minister Raila Odinga the freedom to choose his running mate without any constraints.

He explained that the decision on the running mate would be made solely by the Azimio flag bearer, who bears the burden.

"For us where we have come as Wiper, a firm decision has been taken. Going forward you will not hear us pushing anyone to give us any position.”

We shall let the presidential candidate choose the person he believes will help him win the presidency because the burden is with him," he told reporters on Monday, April 25”

However, the Senator, a close friend of Kalonzo, stated that they would not make a statement until Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), chose his running mate.

"We will sit back and wait for him to make the decision and then see what happens after that. No more pressure. You will not hear anyone of us demanding anything," wambua stated.

Wambua stated that Kalonzo was the best candidate for the job because of his experience and political support from his hometown of Ukambani.

"In Wiper, we know about our strength. Politics is a game of numbers. The numbers within our fraternity are close to three million votes," the Senator explained.

With the Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) deadline of April 28 rapidly approaching, pressure is already mounting on Raila to name his running mate.

With the Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) deadline of April 28 rapidly approaching, pressure is already mounting on Raila to name his running mate.

Already, the Azimio la Umoja has spoken out against the Wafula Chebukati-led team's directive requiring presidential candidates to name deputies by Thursday.

After forming an advisory panel to select a suitable running mate for the ODM boss, the Raila-led faction wrote to the electoral body requesting an extension.

Chebukati has rescheduled a meeting with Azimio leaders for Monday, April 25 in memory of late President Mwai Kibaki. The meeting is set to take place on Tuesday, April 26.

Other candidates for Raila's running mate include Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, and former Gatanga Member of Parliament Peter Kenneth.
