Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe has responded to the Members of Parliament regarding the 2022 general elections amidst the Covid-19.

Mutahi Kagwe responded in a document tabled before the Committee on Health answering a number of Members of Parliament's queries on the fate of the 2022 general election as Covid-19 continues to claim lives.

In his response, Kagwe assured the country that it is possible to hold the 2022 General Elections despite the Covid-19 numbers still streaming in the country.

Mutahi mentioned that other countries have held elections amidst the pandemic and Kenya too can do it.

The Cabinet Secretary listed countries such as Burundi, Zambia, Mongolia, Singapore, South Korea and the United States of America as some of the countries that have successfully conducted their elections despite pandemics.

This is because Covid-19 arrived at a difficult time for the democracy and countries scheduled to hold elections were forced to decide whether to hold them as scheduled or put them off, Kagwe noted.

The Cabinet Secretary, however, notified the members of parliament of some regulations that must be put in place by the election officials and voters during the election.

Kagwe advised on, personal prevention practices such as hand washing, wearing face masks, staying home when sick, and environmental cleaning and disinfection.
