Kabogo: Neither Uhuru nor Ruto Can Save Kenyans from High Cost of Living

Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo now says the current high cost of living – including high fuel prices cannot be solved by President Uhuru Kenyatta or his deputy William Ruto.

There has been a public outcry following a recent move by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) to increase petrol, diesel, and paraffin price that has seen the product a new high in Kenya’s history.

But even as Kenyans blame it on the government, Kabogo says Members of Parliament also played their role in accelerating the situation.

Speaking at Yamumbi in Uasin Gishu County on Wednesday, during the burial of Kamunu wa Kabari, the Uasin Gishu Agikuyu Community spokesperson, the former Kiambu county boss said the legislators hold the key to reducing the taxes which are contributing to the high cost of living.

“The problem of Kenya today is too much of tax. When we talk of tax, it is not Uhuru or Ruto but Members of Parliament. Rather than joining Kenyans in complaining, go to Parliament and pass laws removing some of these taxes,” noted Kabogo.

“The way you passed BBI with over two-thirds of MPs, go there and also pass laws that protect Kenyans,” he added.

MPs who were present during the event led by Soy’s Caleb Kositany, however, defended themselves, blaming the situation on the government’s introduction of taxes.

“It is not like the cost of buying crude oil is high, it is because of many taxes the government has imposed. For every liter of fuel, the government has put in Ksh78 worth of tax,” Kositany said.
