Onyiego was arrested at Wanjigi's Kwacha offices in Westlands at 9.00 pm on Monday 17th, according to the prosecution, and was found with a 15.9mm caliber gun for which he did not have a certificate when he was searched.

However, the court ordered that his case be listed for pre-trial and to set a hearing date on January 25.

In addition, Jimmy Wanjigi was set free on the same day on Wednesday after being relieved of his obligation to enter a plea in the land fraud case that he was facing, pending the hearing and decision of an application before the High Court.

This comes after he was arrested on Tuesday 18th after he was accused of fraudulently obtaining the land on which his office sits on in Parklands.

The land case had been under investigation for atleast4 years when it was discovered that it had three separate titles.

The property LR No 1870/II/200 is owned by Wanjigi and his wife through their company Aerum Ltd; Cissy Kalunde Musembi, a businesswoman; and Horizon Hills Ltd, according to authorities.

On May 28, 2019, Aerum attempted to sell the land for Sh260 million to, a company run by businessman Yogesh Patel.

"The title deed in question was never issued by the government. The suspects only come together with intentions to forge a title with intention to defraud Kenroid Ltd,” reads an investigation file by DCI George Kinoti.

Ironically Wanjigi linked Orange Democratic Movement Party leader Raila Odinga with his arrest stating that it was related to a statement he made on Saturday in Yatta that Odinga was a dictator. He said his opponents seemed to be using that weapon to fight him.

“I tend to believe that it has a lot to do with what I said over the weekend and maybe they have some information of the kind of campaign I intend to launch. But this weekend I was very clear about various personalities and it seems to be making some of my friends very uncomfortable,” he stated.

He however maintained that despite the attacks on him he will not surrender his political bid.

“They tried this in 2017 and they failed… It is the same type of game where they are trying to intimidate me. Some people are uncomfortable with my politics or with the way I speak… I speak nothing but the truth and I don’t think there is anything wrong with speaking the truth,” he added.

On Wednesday when he was released he referred to the ODM leader as a betrayer.

“Raila is Judas Iscariot. He betrayed me,” Jimi Wanjigi said after his release.
