This comes at a time Ruto has been wooing members from Azimioparty in order to increase his support in the parliament, where Azimio hold the majority, on a charm offensive in recent weeks.

As a result, some members of the Raila-led side have switched over to the Kenya Kwanza team, most recently former Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana, senator-elect Ali Roba of Mandera, and his United Democratic Movement party (UDM).

However, the Azimio have sharply criticized his political decisions, accusing him of attempting to establish a one-party state.

"Ruto is assiduously wooing some of the leaders elected as Independents and on the Azimio coalition to defect to his side. This is the practice that was used in the KANU era to defeat the independence of the legislature and retard the growth of multiparty democracy," Raila Odinga Presidential Campaign Secretariat spokesperson, Makau Mutua, stated then.
