A woman identified as Grace Aketch who is a Paralegal Officer at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Kenya who was caught on tape assaulting a housemaid in Mamboleo Estate, Kisumu County was arrested by the police and later set free.

Grace had allegedly attacked her neighbor's house help Berine Achieng` for hanging wet clothes on her balcony.

According to the graphical video contents on social media, the woman {Grace} could be seen hitting the domestic worker Berine Achieng with a 'blunt' machete threatening her that she will slash her.

On the other hand, Details posted by a concerned netizen on social media stated that the domestic worker had hung clothes to dry on their balcony since they are on the first floor and in the balcony hanging line, there is usually is a pipe that drains water from the balcony via a conduit.

Grace, the next-door neighbor, was enraged by the move, claiming that the dripping water could cause a dirty odor in her bedroom.

However, due to the uproar by Kenyans on social media, the graphical video contents caught the attention of law enforcement officers who arrested Grace and later charged her with causing bodily harm.

She was presented before Winam Law Courts Resident Magistrate, Chrispine Oruo in Kisumu where she pleaded not guilty to causing bodily harm.

Details Posted by Bright Kenya news on Monday 25th October indicated that the woman assaulted the domestic worker on Sunday, October 24, in the Mamboleo neighborhood, leaving her bruised in several body regions.

However, Grace whose official profile picture at the USAID Portal reads “As a paralegal officer, I help survivors get justice. This year alone we have arrested 259 perpetrators and 84 of them have already been convicted and are currently in jail. We have seen a big difference as the community trusts us and the numbers of reported cases have more than tripled in the last year. We leave no stone unturned in our pursuit for justice” was released on Ksh10,000 cash bail and a Ksh30,000 alternative bond.

The date for the hearing has been set for March 2, 2022.
