FKF Premier League: AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia shine in their matches to climb up the log.

In the match between AFC Leopards and Mathare United, Leopards beat Mathare 1-0 at Ruaraka Complex to climb in the second position in the league standings.

Ingwe are now with 36 points and level with KCB who are on the top of the log but have inferior goal difference.

Leopards got their only goal and the winner in the seventh minute from Elvis Rupia when he rifled a shot home from the edge of the box on the half turn.

With Leopards starting the game in a high note, they forced Mathare to play in their own half in the opening exchanges. Caleb Olilo had threatened early for Ingwe, with a shot from range which keeper Job Ochieng spilled.

The slum boys were lucky when Rupia missed the target after his header flew over the bar. It could have been a humiliating moment for them for the second time just four minutes after conceding the first goal.

In the 16th minute, Robinson Kamura flicked over a corner from Austin Odhiambo but Clyde Senaji failed to score after hitting the cross saving Mathare yet another time from the biting teeth of Ingwe.

When time clocked half an hour mark, Mathare’s luck came again when Leopard’s Fabrice Mugheni was denied a goal by Ochieng when he pushed away his shot.

In the second half of the game, Mathare made some changes by bringing in Khaleed Jumaan and Eugene Wethuli whom they replaced John Mwangi and Klinsmann Omulanga respectively.

There were also injury concerns after Washington Munene collided with Martin Ongori. The duo were attended when the match was halted for a few minutes. When the team doctors were through, Munene got up and returned to the field but his counterpart Ongori was stretched to the ambulance.

Both teams were reduced to ten men in the last quarter of the game. United’s David Ochieng was sent off for a foul caused on Elvis Rupia on the 78th minute. While Leopards were forced to play ten men after Collins Sichenje was shown a second yellow card in the dying time of the match.

The defeat left Mathare United in the relegation zone with 8 points from 17 matches.

Meanwhile, Clifton Miheso’s second half goal lifted Gor Mahia to the fifth place on the table when they won narrowly by 1-0 against Vihiga United at the Mumias Complex Stadium.

Gor Mahia’s first attempt was thwarted by Vihiga’s keeper Mustapha Oduor when he prevented Miheso from scoring an early goal.

Vihiga were not also lucky when captain Patrick Okulo’s effort was prevented by K'Ogalo’s goalkeeper Gad Mathews.

Miheso was again denied a third goal by Mustapha when he failed to utilise the golden opportunity where he was alone infront of the goal with Vihiga’s keeper.

Finally Miheso found the net after his relentless efforts yielded results giving the visitors the only goal of the match at the 85th minute to help his team win three consecutive matches since the resumption of sports.
