Members of Parliament rejected the proposal to return liquified Petroleum gas to the zero-rated bracket.

They stated that the proposal would lead to deductions in the Treasury’s expected taxes and cost the government input tax claims from industry players.

The incessant will therefore have to pay not less than Sh 360 more for the 13kilograme cooking gas which is currently marketed at Sh 2250.

The execution date is set for 1st July.

The amendment of the Value Added Tax act by the finance act 2020 deleted the supplies of liquified Petroleum gas including propane from the list of zero-rated items under the Second Schedule to the Value Added Tax Act.

The new tax was introduced last year and was to be implemented a year later next week.
