DP Ruto and Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi were expected to grace the event as they continue rallying support ahead of the August General Elections.

The perpetrators of the crime are said to be allied to the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA) party. According to reports, PAA’s youth leader Samir Nyundo oversaw the demolitions citing that it was being held on his family land without proper approval.

Subsequent reports however claim that Jonathan Nyundo, Samir’s kin, gave the green light for the land to be used to hold the meeting.

“Everything was ready when I left the venue last evening. We had alerted security agents of the planned meeting and they were aware that it would be held today,” Kilifi MP Owen Baya said.

“Around 11 pm I got word that youth affiliated to PAA were destroying the setup at the venue.”

Baya reiterated that politicians are legally entitled to preach their agendas without fear of intimidation, irrespective of their communal background. He similarly urged the youth not to be used to drive divisive politics.

“Our politics is peaceful and we will not allow our youth to be used to promote acts of violence and intimidation,” he added.
