What Should I Do For My Father?

Your relationship with your parents is one of the most essential relationships in your life. How you related to your parents, especially your father is something that is most likely to influence your future.

What Should I Do For My Father?

Father's Day is here and as a child, you need to have some moments to reflect on how your relationship with your father has been over the years.

When your father is pleased with you, you will receive the best treatment from him and will most likely be pleased as well.

It can be difficult to please your father at times but it is necessary for a happy family. You can achieve a happy family relationship by focusing on how you interact with your father and the things you do in life.

In most African families, fathers are the most feared persons and so children will tend to avoid them and relate more with their mothers. One thing to note is that, as a child, you need to get to understand your father. In that way, you need to understand what he likes and what he dislikes so that you have a free relationship with him.

Actually, fathers are one of the best humans when you get to understand how to live with them well. They are always very protective especially of their children, specifically the girl child.

No parent wants to see his/ her child being a failure in life and so they will do all it takes to ensure that their children become the best.

How to strengthen your relationship with your father

You probably have related at times badly with your father and this made you question yourself or maybe blamed him for the position he has taken in a matter that you both addressed.

Strengthening your relationship with your father could create a very big impact on your life and some of the things that you need to put into practice are:

1. Spending time with him

In most cases, you may find that your father might not be always around due to the commitments that he has. This should not hinder you from trying to create some time to spend with him.

Making the extra effort to spend time with him and share your ideas and opinions will strengthen your bond. Make an effort to share at least one meal with him each day.

This can be a great time to talk about the events of the day, anything you're concerned about, or anything important. If your father shares something, show him you were paying attention by asking him about it later.

Time might be a very good love language that you might not know.

Take the time to inquire about your father's youth, dreams, career, and favorite memories. These are the kinds of stories you'll remember as you get older.

They may also assist you in comprehending his values.
Listen to him and be genuinely interested. Listening demonstrates your concern and improves your relationship with your father.

2. Ask him for advice

Before taking part in some activities that you might doubt yourself, sometimes it's best if you consulted your dad. This is because he might be having some opinions or suggestions that might help you in your tasks.

Even if your father has no experience with a particular situation, he can still advise you on how to approach it or where you can learn how to approach it.

3. Implement his values

Make a list of the values you believe your father holds. Consider phrases your father frequently says, such as 'Always tell the truth,' or 'Do your best.' These are the values he is instilling in his students.

You are not required to agree with everything your father says or does. Consider and try to implement values that will have a positive impact on your life. If your father does something that you disagree with, talk to him about it. Perhaps you can brainstorm ways to assist him in changing his ways.

4. Always respect him

Your father will remain to be your father for the rest of your life.

Exercise some self-control and wait until you're calm before engaging in a discussion. Take slow, deep breaths to help you calm down if you're angry. Sit down and drink some cool water if you can. This should help you relax.
Always try to comprehend your father's point of view. He may have a good reason for not letting you do something or think differently. What you perceive as a limitation may be his way of protecting himself.

5. Show him affection

Demonstrate your affection for your father. Speak to him with tender words and a warm tone of voice. Some fathers dislike being overly affectionate, and you may find it strange to be physically affectionate.

Boys, in particular, can be reluctant to show affection to their parents.

Try to find a level where you feel at ease. You are not required to hug your father in public if you do not wish to.

6. Make him feel special

Dads sometimes need favors and attention because they have been so busy providing for your needs and fulfilling the needs of the house that they want someone to recognize their efforts.

So, make some special days for him, such as inviting his friends on his birthday; if you are abroad, send gifts for Him as a surprise on Father's Day; send him on his favorite vacation or recreational activity, such as swimming, golf, chit chat with friends, and so on.

In doing the above, you'll be able to strengthen your relationship with your dad and at the end of it, you will have a brighter future.
