According to a source privy to www.brightkenyanews.com the lady died over negligence of the Hospital attendants. The 28-year-old lady who has been identified as Maurine began bleeding lavishly at 9 Am after successfully giving birth to two healthy babies.

However, the hospital workers' response towards the emergency issue appeared sluggish calling for the intervention of her family members who later decided to transfer her to Kiambu Level 5 hospital to save her life unfortunately she passed at around 8 pm.

Maureen's sister Rose Otienoasserted that her water broke on Monday at around 7 pm.

"When we got to the hospital, medics expressed concern that her pressure was high, but they agreed to admit and stabilize her," she said.

Members of the Embakasi East family claim that their relatives passed away from bleeding, which they believe shouldn't have happened. One of the companions who drove Maureen to the hospital, Lynn Kish Braidist, charges Mama Lucy Hospital of failing to act quickly enough to stop the bleeding of the young woman.

The family through their friend is now seeking the help of the public on ways they can use to get the two motherless infants formula milk and other basic needs for them to survive.

"I just want justice for the children. The bereaved husband is confused he's just crying because he had just started a family. I am left with the twins and I'm a single mother myself, I don't even know how we shall handle this," she said amid tears.

The nurse came and broke my water luckily i pushed out the baby successfully but by bad luck, I bled for almost 30 minutes with the nurses and doctors looking at each other confused. I remember one telling me Madam tutakupeleka theater and I said No".

Congested and lack of Enough Hospital Beds

Mama Lucy is believed to be one of the largest and most populated public hospitals in Kenya and due to that, it has very poor hospital facilities starting from patient beds to medicine.

A spot check by one of our journalists revealed that the maternity section of the hospital, which handles up to 40 deliveries a day, with an average of 24 being normal deliveries while the rest are done through cesarean section, has only one gynecologist against the requirement of four needed for the unit to operate efficiently.

At the same time, up to three mothers who deliver at the hospital share a bed sometimes, and due to the congestion, mothers are discharged after only eight hours instead of the recommended 24 hours.

Additionally, the hospital’s pediatric unit – for children under five years and their mothers – lacks a pediatric officer and had only two nurses.

This is despite the fact that the unit serves an estimated 24,000 patients in a month and about 500 children a day.
