Police officers in Wote, Makueni county have arrested three teachers and a police officer over alleged exam irregularity.

The four were arrested today and will stay in police custody until Monday when they will they will be arraigned in court.

According to Makueni County Police commander Joseph Ole Napeiyan, the three teachers were arrested after a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam paper that leaked was traced by investigators to have originated from their school. The school is Ngungi Secondary School in Kalawa, Mbooni East Sub- county.

There was information that was received by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) headquarters exam monitoring center indicating a leaked exam paper; Kiswahili Paper 2 (Lugha) code 102/2 and the origin was traced all the way to Ngungi secondary in Mbooni hence the arrest of those suspects.” The county commissioner said.

The county commissioner further stated that in a multi-agency operation in the school, police were able to find a photocopy of the real examination paper and a mobile phone.

Upon arrival at the school our team conducted a comprehensive search and found Kiswahili Lugha Paper 2 together with a mobile phone suspected to have been used in circulating the paper hidden adjacent to the school boys’ toilet,” Napeiyan added.

In the operation also, police were able to confiscate phones that were in possession of cooks, an invigilator and by the security office in charge of the exam center.

Those arrested include, the school principal, the exam center supervisor, an invigilator at the center and a security officer stationed at the school.

According to the county commissioner, the four will be arraigned in court on Monday as investigations around them will be complete by then.

We will present the four in court on Monday morning since by then the investigating officer will have collected enough evidence and analysis on the obtained phones will have been thoroughly conducted,” said the county security boss.
