The two, alongside two other gangsters, were claimed to have robbed a middle-aged woman at gunpoint near Pangani, Agoi road, taking her possessions before escaping on motorcycles.

The victim reported the incident to Pangani Police Station, prompting the precinct to reach out to officers patrolling the area, who immediately started scouring the streets, searching for the thugs.

The detectives came across the duo along Thika road before pursuing them to Dr. Griffins Road. According to police, the two were asked to surrender but refused, resulting in a purported intense gunfight with the Starehe DCI detectives.

“The two were fatally wounded, and a black revolver loaded with six rounds of federal 38 special recovered,” said the DCI.

The woman's possessions were also recovered during the incident, and the two remaining gangsters are being sought.

Following ballistic tests, the DCI's National Forensic Laboratory linked the firearm to a string of robberies in Eastleigh and surrounding areas.

They noted that the firearm is not among those commonly used by Kenyan criminals and are tracing its origins, which indicates it is from Somalia. Despite that, they are still considering the possibility that the revolver might have been smuggled into the country for other hidden reasons.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is looking into the shootings of the two gangsters. According to IPOA Chairperson, Anne Makori, a rapid response team has been formed to investigate the incident and determine if there was any foul play by the police officers involved.
