Senegal, ranked tenth in world, beat world number two giants Brazil 5-4, in a sensational quarter final clash, that saw arguably Senegal’s best player on the night, Raoul Mendy, pay tribute to his late mother who had tragically past away the night before the quarter final, continuing their incredible run in the tournament, setting up a semi-final clash verses Japan on Saturday, the 28th of August, who beat Oceania’s Tahiti 5-4 in their quarter final, the tournament’s now tantalizingly poised to welcome Les Lions, whose best showing at the World Cup finals was fifth place in 2007, as possible first time finalists.

As hosts Russia (who beat Spain 4-2) meet Switzerland (who absolutely decimated Uruguay 10-1, in the respective quarter final clashes), in the second semi-final, the weekend inevitably holds the promise for more twists of joy and heartbreak in the ever evolving tale of the tournament.
