Revealed! What Caused The Homabay Pier Boat Tragedy
At least two people have been reported dead after their boat capsized in Lake Victoria, off Homabay County on Tuesday, September 21 eve.
The victims were traveling to Nduru Island in Mbita Sucounty, Homabay county when their boat capsized at around 6 pm.
Two corpses have been retrieved, 6 people have been rescued, while eight more passengers are feared to be missing.
The six were rushed to Homabay County Referral Hospital for treatment.
According to the Homabay town chief, Joshua Ochogo, the two bodies retrieved were of a middle-aged woman and a child believed to be about one and half years.
Ochogo also revealed that the boat had excess luggage of more than thirty passengers and building materials, which he stated could have been the cause of the tragedy.
While condoling with the bereaved families on Wednesday, September 22, Homabay County Women Representative, Gladys Wanga said the stakeholders were putting more effort to hasten the rescue operations.
