Kenyan Footballers can now smile, this is after the World football governing body FIFA lifted the ban against Kenya on Monday 28th November.

According to a letter from Secretary-General Fatma Samoura to FKF CEO Barry Otieno, a group made up of representatives from FIFA and CAF would be sent to Kenya to determine the following measures.

Additionally, FIFA also announced preparations to meet with Ababu Namwamba, the new Sports Cabinet Secretary, In an effort to resolve other problems in the nation's sports industry.

FIFA body had barred all  Kenya's footballing activities in February 2022, after former Sports CS Amina Mohamed disbanded the Football Kenya Federation in November 2021.

Due to the ban, Kenya didn't participate in three continental competitions including the 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, CAF confederations, and Champions League games. 

However, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba made this one of his main priorities. He called FIFA on his first day in office in an effort to break the deadlock.

“On my first day in office, I engaged FIFA on the phone to commence the process of resolving the impasse that has seen Kenya banned by the world football governing body.

The Sports CS met with FIFA president Gianni Infantino on November 24 to try to finalize the agreement and make sure the nation was on good terms with the Federation.

"Government is committed to returning Kenyan football to normalcy in sync with the rule of law and public good,” he previously stated. 

"I met in Doha today; FIFA President Gianni Infantino, General Secretary Fatma Samoura and CAF President Patrice Motsepe.
