The match was off to a dramatic start as in the 6th min Germany were awarded a penalty. However after consultation with VAR the verdict was overruled. Romania startled the hosts by taking the lead when Ianis Hagi displayed some brilliant footwork before striking the ball into the far corner.

Having conceded their first goal under Flick, Germany switched gears and were off to deliver damage to the Romanians. The hosts put off a series of threatening attacks but Tricolorii stood their ground.

Germany moved up a gear and seven minutes into the second-half Bayern Munich Winger Serge Gnabry took on the mantle and equalized, picking the bottom corner from outside the box after being teed by Borussia Dortmund Captain Marco Reus

Yearning to take the 3 points home, Hansi deployed Thomas Műller and Kai Havertz and the duo paid off their deeds tiring out the Romanian backline. In the 81st min the visitor's resolve was shattered as a Germany corner was flicked by Leon Goretzka and Thomas Műller crept in the far post to sweep the ball home.

The result leaves Germany in pole position in Group J amassing 18 points as they edge closer to Qatar.
